Position Summary
An Analytical Chemist position is available immediately for a highly motivated individual to work in the Boreal Ecosystem Research Facility located on Grenfell Campus, Memorial University, Corner Brook, NL. The Analytical Chemist will join a multidisciplinary research team with expertise in hydrology, agronomy, soil science, environmental science, microbiology, neurobiology, food science, and plant biochemistry. We are seeking an Analytical chemist with expertise in using specialize chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques to understand the roles of lipid metabolism in mitigating environmental stress in a multidisciplinary context.

Qualifications:
Ph.D in any life or natural science related discipline
Expertise and training in lipid biochemistry and lipid analysis using liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry are essential for this position.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Food Science/Food Chemistry

Position Summary

A postdoctoral fellowship is available immediately for a highly motivated individual to work in the new Functional Foods Sensory Lab and Boreal Ecosystem Research Facility located on Grenfell Campus, Memorial University, Corner Brook, NL. The fellow will join a multidisciplinary research team and will be responsible for assisting with the establishment of chemo-metrics based approach to Functional Foods Sensory Evaluation and Food Innovation in collaboration with a team of scientists in the Functional Foods and Brain Health Research Program.

Qualifications:
Ph.D in Food Science, Food Chemistry or related discipline
The ideal applicant will possess a curiosity and passion for science, and a talent for independent multidisciplinary research in life, medical or natural sciences. This should be supported by a strong publication record with at least two first authored publications in respected journals.

Position Summary

The Functional Foods and Brain Health Research Program aims to create novel or improved foods as medicine for the functional foods, plant based or traditional foods markets.

Primary Purpose of Executive Chef/Food Developer:
Provide professional culinary expertise, vision, support and leadership for areas including food quality, safety, culinary creativity, food development, nutrition, composition, and food presentation, specific to creation of global flavors, plant base, traditional or functional foods.

Responsible for assisting graduate students, food scientists, researchers, government collaborators and industry partners with the creation of new or improved food products, recipes, formulations, ingredients for the health food, traditional food, and functional foods sectors while remaining current with the latest trends and best practices in the culinary field.

Industry Liaison Officer

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of the Functional Foods Lab, the successful applicant will develop and implement a technology transfer strategic plan for the Functional Foods Lab; work closely with the Lab and research program to recruit new industry partners by networking and actively seeking opportunities for industrial participation; applied research translation, increase interaction with current industry partners; facilitate student/industry relations through internships, student participation in joint projects with industry; assist in the formation of new industry partnerships, start-ups, services and other industrial enterprises or association; work with Memorial’s Tech Transfer Office on MOU’s, technology transfer and licensing agreements and generally working through intellectual property agreements; organizing meetings with existing and new industry partners; maintaining an active website for industry partners; form part of the core management team for the functional foods research program, preparing reports of industry collaborations or as required; coordinate with the office of research and engagement in informing lab performance and output, and any other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Experience (3-5 years) in forging industry relationships or working in a food industry environment; undergraduate degree in science related to food production or an undergraduate degree in business or a related discipline; preference will be given to a master’s degree in science or business; a strong understanding of university research environment and related funding processes; an understanding of intellectual property and research agreements is preferred; an understanding of innovation processes and university industry relationships to support innovation; strong demonstrated interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, discretion, attention to detail, and time management skills are required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required.
